Today I Learned: 1) A thymister is an electronic component kind of like a transistor, except that the output is either on or off -- instead of amplifying current like a transistor, a thymister acts as a switch. 2) It has been observed since the 60s that the children of holocaust survivors are more prone to PTSD, and suffer more severe PTSD, than the rest of the population. This has been confirmed over and over again, but there's no solid known mechanism. Recently, there's been a fair amount of somewhat fringe science on transgenerational epigenetic changes in response to stress, which has been hypothesized as one explanation.
